Tianshan Tianchi Scenic Area
Spot Introduction
Tianshan Tianchi is a high-mountain lake located at an altitude of 1907 meters, covering an area of 4.9 square kilometers and surrounded by the perpetually snow-capped Bogda Peak. Here, the mountains and water complement each other, and the clouds and fog linger, making it one of the most famous natural landscapes in Xinjiang, known as the “Pearl of Tianshan”.
Formed during the Quaternary glacial period about 2 million years ago, Tianchi is a typical moraine lake. The lake takes on a crescent shape, with a maximum depth of 105 meters, and the water is crystal clear, presenting an enchanting blue-green color. It preserves a complete mountain ecosystem, ranging from alpine meadows to glacial snow, forming a unique vertical natural zone landscape.
The scenery of Tianchi varies with the seasons: in spring, the mountains are filled with flowers; in summer, the climate is pleasantly cool; in autumn, the forests are dyed in layers of color; and in winter, everything is covered in silver. This place is not only a tourist destination but also an important scientific research base, harboring a wealth of rare animal and plant resources, such as snow leopards and Northern ibex.
Tianchi also carries rich cultural connotations. According to legend, it is the Jade Pool of the West Queen Mother, and many literati and poets have left numerous poems here. Nowadays, it has become a comprehensive scenic area integrating natural sightseeing, scientific research, and cultural experience, attracting millions of tourists every year.
