Wudalianchi Scenic Area
Spot Introduction
Wudalianchi Scenic Area is a World Geopark renowned for its distinctive volcanic landscapes and mineral spring resources. Featuring 14 volcanoes, 5 connected volcanic quake lakes, and numerous mineral springs, it is a tourist destination that integrates sightseeing and healthcare.
Formed by volcanic eruptions between 1719 and 1721, Wudalianchi is one of the youngest volcanic groups in China. The 14 volcanoes are arranged in a “well” pattern, with Laohei Mountain and Huoshao Mountain being the most prominent. The lava plateau, covering an area of over 800 square kilometers, preserves intact volcanic geological relics, including lava tunnels, volcanic bombs, and volcanic scoria.
The five connected quake lakes cover a total area of 40 square kilometers, with crystal-clear water and graceful shorelines. Additionally, the area boasts rich mineral spring resources, with over 300 mineral springs discovered, among which the North Medicinal Spring and South Drinking Spring are the most famous, containing various beneficial trace elements.
The scenic area possesses a unique ecosystem, harboring specific vegetation communities characteristic of volcanic lava landscapes. It also serves as a habitat for rare animals and plants, such as Siberian tigers and sika deer. Every summer, a Volcanic Culture Tourism Festival is held here, showcasing the distinctive volcanic culture and mineral spring healthcare culture.
Beyond its exceptional natural landscapes, Wudalianchi also embodies profound historical and cultural significance. As one of the birthplaces of the Manchu people, it preserves abundant Manchu folk culture. The Volcano Museum, which documents the volcanic formation process and geological changes, serves as a crucial base for science popularization and education.
