Huangguoshu Falls

Spot Introduction

Huangguoshu Falls, Asia’s largest waterfall, stands at a height of 77.8 meters and a width of 101 meters. It is surrounded by 18 other waterfalls of various sizes, forming a spectacular waterfall group landscape. As one of the world’s famous waterfalls, it is not only a natural wonder but also an important geological relic. The unique Water Curtain Cave within the scenic area allows visitors to view the falls from behind, offering a close-up experience of its wonders.

Huangguoshu Falls was formed during the Triassic period, 200 million years ago, and is a typical karst landscape waterfall. The falls are abundant in water, with an average annual flow rate of 16 cubic meters per second, which can reach up to 1000 cubic meters per second during the rainy season, making it truly majestic. The waterfall group is distributed along the Baishui River, forming a multi-level cascade, among which Huangguoshu Falls is the most impressive.

The Water Curtain Cave within the scenic area is 134 meters long and consists of 6 cave windows, 5 cave halls, and 3 cave springs. It is the only waterfall in Asia that can be viewed from the inside. Doupotang Falls is known for its stepped waterfall group, creating a unique “silver chain falling into the pool” landscape. The Tianxing Bridge scenic area showcases a typical karst landform, where underground caves and surface waterfalls complement each other.

In recent years, through scientific planning, the scenic area has established a comprehensive environmental monitoring system, achieving a balance between ecological protection and tourism development. The visitor center provides professional science education services, helping visitors to deeply understand this precious geological heritage. The scenic area has also developed a night tour project, showcasing the falls’ unique charm through a lighting show.
