The island is home to over 1000 buildings in various styles, including Gothic, Baroque, and Romanesque, forming a unique “Exhibition of International Architecture” landscape.

As an island of music, Gulangyu has nurtured many musicians. The residents of the island have a high level of musical accomplishment, and the piano density here ranks first in the country. The annual Gulangyu Piano Festival attracts music lovers from around the world. In 2017, Gulangyu Island was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site, becoming China’s 52nd World Heritage site.
