Tianguishan Scenic Area

Spot Introduction

Located at the eastern foot of the Taihang Mountains, Tianguishan Scenic Area is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction known for its unique landscape, deep valleys, and long-standing Buddhist culture. Covering a total area of 68 square kilometers, it combines natural beauty with cultural heritage.

Formed during the Yanshan movement 150 million years ago, Tianguishan exemplifies karst topography. Its main peak stands at 1290 meters, displaying a majestic and rugged landscape. Over 30 caves dot the area, with “Tiangui Cave” being the most renowned. Inside, stunning stalactites and stalagmites create a geological spectacle.

The Ancient Buddhist Temple, originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty over 1500 years ago, houses invaluable Buddhist relics. These include Tang Dynasty stone inscriptions, Song Dynasty sutra pillars, and Ming Dynasty wall paintings. Every year, on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, the Buddha Bathing Festival attracts numerous devotees.

The scenic area boasts a superior ecological environment, with a forest coverage rate exceeding 95%. It is home to over 2000 plant species and 300 wildlife species. Notably, the “Taihang Yew,” unique to Tianguishan, is a nationally protected plant. The area also serves as a crucial habitat for Taihang macaques, often seen playing in the forests.

In recent years, the scenic area has introduced various specialty tourism programs. Visitors can admire blooming wildflowers in spring, experience valley rafting in summer, enjoy the autumn foliage, and appreciate the snowy winter landscape. Additionally, outdoor activities like climbing, hiking, and camping are available.

As a significant part of the Taihang Geopark, Tianguishan holds immense scientific research value.
