Wulong Karst

Spot Introduction

Wulong Karst is renowned for its unique karst landforms, including scenic areas such as the Natural Bridge, Furong Cave, and Xiannv Mountain. It is a world-class natural heritage site that integrates canyons, caves, and alpine meadows.

Formed 250 million years ago during the Triassic period, Wulong Karst is a typical karst geomorphic development zone. It boasts the world’s largest natural bridge group - the Natural Bridge, consisting of Tianlong Bridge, Qinglong Bridge, and Heilong Bridge. The largest bridge stands at a height of 281 meters and spans over 500 meters, exuding a magnificent presence and deemed as a geological wonder. Furong Cave is one of the most beautiful caves in China, featuring a myriad of stalactite formations and a winding underground river, creating a unique underground karst landscape.

Xiannv Mountain National Forest Park is an essential part of Wulong Karst, encompassing 100,000 mu of alpine meadows and 300,000 mu of virgin forests. It is the largest alpine grassland in the Three Gorges region of the Yangtze River. The scenery varies throughout the seasons, with blooming mountain flowers in spring, a pleasantly cool summer, a dazzling autumn foliage, and a silver-covered winter, making it an ideal spot for summer vacations.

Longshuixia Gorge is another highlight of Wulong Karst. This canyon extends for 5 kilometers, reaching a depth of 500 meters. The steep cliffs on both sides and the gentle streams form a spectacular canyon landscape. It preserves a complete karst ecosystem, serving as a natural laboratory for studying the evolution of karst landforms.

As a crucial component of the South China Karst World Natural Heritage, Wulong Karst not only possesses exceptional aesthetic value but also provides invaluable scientific evidence for studying the Earth’s evolutionary history and biodiversity conservation.
