Panjin Red Beach National Scenic Corridor
Scenic Spot Introduction
Panjin Red Beach National Scenic Corridor is the world’s largest Suaeda salsa wetland, located at the mouth of the Liaohe River with a total area of over 200,000 mu. Every autumn, vast areas of Suaeda salsa exhibit a stunning red color, contrasting beautifully with the blue sky and white clouds, forming a unique “Red Beach” spectacle. This area also serves as an important habitat for migratory birds, boasting exceptional ecological value.
The formation of the Red Beach is attributed to unique natural conditions: sediment carried by the Liaohe River accumulates at its mouth, forming expansive tidal flats; the high salinity of seawater mixing with freshwater provides an ideal environment for the growth of Suaeda salsa. Every April, Suaeda salsa begins to grow, reaching its peak viewing period in September-October when the entire tidal flat resembles a red carpet, presenting a magnificent scene.
As a national-level nature reserve, the Red Beach is rich in biodiversity. It is home to over 260 species of birds, including rare species such as the Red-crowned Crane and the Saunder’s Gull. The wetland ecosystem provides a crucial stopover site for migratory birds during their migrations and a wintering ground, making it a significant node on the East Asia-Australasia Flyway.
The Red Beach not only possesses immense ecological value but also embodies profound cultural heritage. This area was once an ancient channel of the Liaohe River, witnessing the rise and fall of Liaohe civilization. In recent years, the scenic area has constructed a 18-kilometer-long scenic corridor featuring multiple viewing platforms and science exhibition halls, allowing visitors to fully experience the beauty of the wetland from all angles.
The scenic area has also developed a variety of tourism programs, including wetland science education, ecological photography, and bird watching activities. The annual “Red Beach International Wetland Tourism Festival” attracts a large number of visitors.
