Mount Tai

Spot Introduction

Mount Tai, known as the leader of China’s Five Great Mountains, is a sacred place where emperors of past dynasties performed rites of worship. With its majestic and spectacular landscape, it is revered as the “Sole Dignitary of the Five Great Mountains.” Mount Tai is renowned worldwide for its rich historical culture, stunning natural scenery, and abundant cultural relics.

The main peak, Yuhuangding, stands at an elevation of 1545 meters. The mountain is composed of ancient metamorphic and granite rocks, forming a unique geological landscape. Numerous ancient and famous trees dot the landscape, with the “Five Great Scholar Pines” and the “Welcoming Pine” being the most famous. The four wonders of Mount Tai—sunrise, cloud sea, sunset glow, and the golden belt of the Yellow River—are breathtaking spectacles.

As a world cultural and natural heritage site, Mount Tai not only boasts magnificent natural scenery but also carries profound cultural significance. Since the Qin Dynasty, 12 emperors have performed rites here, leaving a wealth of precious cliff inscriptions and ancient building complexes. Mount Tai is also a sacred place for Taoism and Buddhism, with numerous temples and monasteries thriving with religious activities.
